An email I received to share some upcoming talks organised by the Archdiocesan Council for Inter-Religious and Ecumenical Dialogue (“IRED”) headed by Sr Maria Lau IJ, under the auspices of His Grace, Archbishop Nicholas Chia. Hope you find the topics meaningful to attend.
LOVE OF GOD, LOVE OF NEIGHBOUR
In an effort to sensitise and deepen Catholics’ understanding of the other major religions in Singapore, the IRED will be presenting a series of talks entitled “LOVE OF GOD, LOVE OF NEIGHBOUR”. This is in the light of Nostra Aetate and in tandem with our Pope Benedict XVI’s meeting with the Muslim scholars in November.
The series will consist of five talks and we are spreading these talks over the five districts as follows:
Topic : Love of God, Love of my Buddhist neighbour
Date: Tue 1st July 2008
By: Br Michael Broughton
Venue: Church Sts Peter and Paul

Venue: Church of Nativity of the BVM
Each talk will:
(i) trace the history of each faith in relation to christianity;
(ii) examine each faith’s understanding of, and relationship with God;
(iii) consider our relationship with each other and how there can be unity in diversity.
We hope that this initial effort by the IRED members will invoke more interest among Catholics to further inter-religous dialogue,and perhaps even to areas of collaboration among people of different faiths. Do come.
