A year dedicated to St Paul, the Apostle, which commenced from 28th June 2008 to 29th June 2009. As St Peter was known to be the leader of the Jews in spreading the Good News after the resurrection of Jesus, St Paul was known to be the leader of the Gentiles. Born in Tarsus (a province in Mersin in modern day Turkey), tent-maker by trade, he grew up and later travelled to Jerusalem and studied under the well known Rabbi Gamaliel. A persecutor of Christians and the Church, his experience of a vision and subsequent conversion led him to become one of the greatest spokesperson and leader of Christianity.
